Medium-density fibreboard (MDF)

MDF is an engineered wood product made by breaking down hardwood or softwood residuals into wood fibres. These are combined with a wax and resin binder, and formed into panels by applying high temperatures and pressure.

Due to its non-directional grain structure, MDF can be cut, machined, and drilled without creating splinters or chipping – making it perfect for woodworking and carpentry projects. Its smooth surface is also ideal for interior design products that you intend to paint, such as cabinets and shelves.

Softwood plywood

Our softwood plywood is made by laminating thin sheets of softwood veneer together. Multiple layers of wood veneer are laid in alternating or aligned configurations, depending on the intended purpose of the plywood. Glue is applied to bond the veneer, then the whole thing is compressed to create a laminated panel.

Softwood plywood is strong, lightweight, and highly resistant to impact. It retains its dimensions in various conditions, whilst remaining easy to apply nails and screws to without cracking.

Chipboard

Also known as particle board, chipboard is manufactured from wood particles and a synthetic resin or other binder, pressed together to form sheets.

Chipboard is similar to MDF and hardboard in that it is a type of fibreboard, but chipboard is made from larger pieces of wood. Although it’s denser than conventional wood, chipboard is incredibly light. It’s ideal for protecting a variety of surfaces, but can also be used to make furniture and permanent surfaces like worktops.
