We have always been conscious of our environmental responsibilities, and our work in this area has now been recognised by the organisers of a prestigious awards programme. We have been shortlisted for the ‘Sustainable/Ethical Manufacturer Award’ at Insider’s ‘Made in the South West’ Awards.
We have a number of initiatives aimed at reducing our carbon footprint, including;
- installing solar panels
- burning woodchip from pallets beyond repair
- using offcuts to heat our workshops and kilns
- creating a battery storage to enable more efficient use of energy.
We have been working with Wells-based Gridimp since 2019 on these and other initiatives to reduce energy costs, increase energy efficiency, and thereby minimise the negative impact on future generations. In just one year we managed to lower our carbon emissions by 70 tonnes, and it is this work which has led to our shortlisting for the Award.
Managing Director Kevin Bond said, “As a proud Somerset-based company for over 40 years, we are aware of our responsibilities not just as an employer but also as a neighbour and energy consumer. Our work with Gridimp has enabled us to reduce our environmental impact, and we are honoured that ‘Insider’ has identified our efforts as worthy of a position on their shortlist. We are looking forward to attending their Awards dinner next month.”
