Lorry curtains have never been so stylish

If you’re a regular reader of our blogs, you’ll know that at Somerlap we always aim to be as environmentally friendly as possible. But you might be surprised to learn that we even have an environmentally friendly (and stylish!) solution for our lorry curtains too.

When our lorry curtains become worn and need replacing, they’re sent to M-24 in Kingston St Mary, Somerset. M-24 recycles used truck tarpaulin, turning them into super tough durable bags. Each truck tarp bag is hand cut and stitched in the UK.

Lorry curtains = a ‘bag for life’

M-24 started in 2012, when owner Mat Dusting began making the bags after noticing that sharp corners tore through the fabric of his university backpacks. He launched his innovative ‘bag for life’ at the national Ski Show that year and sold all his stock. Seven years later, his products have been featured in the national press and specialist magazines.

Somerlap began supplying M-24 with old lorry curtains several years ago. Our Technical Administration Manager, Nigel Puddy has gone one step further and spoke about M-24 at a recent Road Haulage Association meeting.

He and Mat are now hoping that the RHA members will supply their old lorry curtains to M-24, rather than throwing them away. That means Mat has new suppliers, new designs and can recycle more old lorry curtains. Somerlap Managing Director, Kevin Bond is waiting for a burgundy one to come into stock, as his daughter has asked for one!
